Expand upon your Reference Source research with Secondary Source books / ebooks.

These full-length books - also called Monographs - will have more specific information about your topic.
  • They are written by scholars and subject experts.
  • The author often presents a new interpretation of your topic based upon a synthesis of based on primary sources, secondary source books, journal articles, and other scholarly materials.
  • They contain a bibliography of sources or notes citing sources used.
  • Sometimes there's a whole book on your topic, and sometimes a chapter or section.

    • You are on your honor to return all books before leaving the library at the end of class.

    • You may sign books out for use in the library only.

How do I know if a book will be useful?

CITE YOUR PRINT and ELECTRONIC BOOKS IN NOODLETOOLS

  • For print monographs, choose PRINT or IN-HAND and Book.
  • For ebooks found in RhinoCat, choose DATABASE and Book.
  • For ebooks found on the internet using Google, for instance, choose WEBSITE and Book.
 
If your book/ebook has an ISBN number, look for this search bar on the NoodleTools Book citation template:

 
Look on the back of the book and find the barcode with the ISBN above it:

 
The ISBN also appears on the back of the title page:
 
And in your book's record in RhinoCat:

NOTE: BOOKS PUBLISHED PRIOR TO ABOUT 1970 WILL NOT HAVE AN ISBN.
For these books, you will create an original citation by hand.
